William J. BartlettMadison-William James Bartlett, 90, passed away peacefully, on Sunday, January 8, 2017, at the Waterville Residential Care.He was born on November 7, 1926, the son of the late Clinton and Marion Wilcox Bartlett. He was a graduate of Johnson City High School and Ithaca College. William enlisted in the US Navy during WWII and was Honorably Discharged in 1946. William had been a teacher for many years and retired from NYS Department of Labor. He was of the Roman Catholic faith, and a proud member of the American Legion Post, 1556, of Madison. He married Sue Ann Phelps on September 4, 1948. Their loving union lasted 49 years, until Sue's passing in 1997. In later years he married Grace Clune, she also predeceased William.William is survived by his children, Anne (William) Byrne, of Minoa, John (Sharyn) Bartlett, of Tasmania, Australia, Elizabeth (Edward) O'Brien, of Sauquoit, and Mary Bartlett Linden, of Madison; his cherished granddaughters, Moira, Ciara, Abaigh, Hilary and Heather; his beloved grandson, Gabriel; and six precious great grandchildren; his brother, Robert (Pat) Bartlett, of New Smyrna Beach, FL.; many nieces and nephews. Grace's children and grandchildren also survive William.He was predeceased by his parents, Clinton and Marion, his first wife, Sue, his brother, C. Richard "Dick" Bartlett, his sister, Barbara LaClaire, and beloved grandsons, Ian and Jasper, and his second wife, Grace.A special thanks to the team of dedicated and compassionate staff at the Waterville Residential Care, including his special nurse, Hilary, who kept an eye on her grandfather.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2017, at 1:00 PM, at the Paul Funeral Home of Madison. Interment with Military Honors will be in the spring at the Madison Village Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Saturday from 11AM-1 PM, prior to the funeral service.
