Walter Phillip Wahl
Madison-Walter Phillip Wahl, 81, went to Heaven on Saturday, June 24, 2023, and was reunited with his wife Betty Jayne and his daughter Wendy Jayne Lewis.
He was born on March 16, 1942, the son of the late Andrew Wahl and Esther Moore Wahl, at the family home in Milford, New York. Walt received his education in the one room school house located in Westville. Following school, he worked on the family farm, as well as other local farms. Walter was united in marriage to Betty Jayne Richards July 19, 1969. They were happily united in marriage for 32 years, until Betty Jayne’s passing on December 15, 2001. They had two precious daughters; Wendy Jayne, who passed away on March 21, 2023, and Kim Marie. Walter had a lifelong career as a tractor trailer driver. Driving spanned his life from 18 years old until he was 79. Walter drove for Cumberland Farms for 30 years, then drove another 5 years for Cumberland Farms successor. For over 10 years, he drover tractor trailer for Rapasadi’s Produce of Canastota. He then finished his career driving for White Eagle Farms, retiring from tractor trailer driving at 79 years old. Walter’s family was always kept close to his heart, no matter where he was in his travels. He would call his nieces and nephews every day. His two grandsons were his pride and joy, Phillip and Noah were always at their papa’s side learning about trucking, maps, and road signs at a very young age. There were many main road and back road trips that always ended at McDonald’s. Walter made sure he never missed on of grandson’s school activities. He always loved visiting family and friends. A trucker at heart, Walt made sure to enjoy each day he lived and shared his love of family.
Walter is survived by his daughter Kim Wahl (Jeremy Williams) of Madison; his cherished and loved grandsons Phillip Williams and Noah Williams, also of Madison; his son-in-law Lyle Lewis of Augusta; his sister Matilda Brooks of Wappingers Falls; and many nieces and nephews, who loved Walter dearly. He is also survived by a special friend, who Walter thought as a son, Jeremy Carroll of Hamilton.
He was predeceased by his parents Andrew and Esther; his beloved wife Betty Jayne; his cherished daughter Wendy Jayne Lewis; his brothers Andrew Wahl, Bill Wahl, and George Wahl. Walter was also predeceased by his sister Henrietta and Minna.
Service will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at 2 PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Augusta, with Reverend Jay Williams, Pastor officiating. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service from 1-2 PM, at the church. Walter and his family are being provided personal and professional care by Jeffrey T.
