Obituary
Walter A. Fuller
Vernon-Walter A. Fuller, 92, also formerly of Hamilton, passed away peacefully, with the love and support of his family at his side, in the early morning hours of Friday, June 7, 2024, at the Crouse Community Center in Morrisville.
He was born on June 24, 1931, in Hamilton, the son of the late Howard A. and Hazel (Pilbeam) Fuller. Walter was raised on the family farm in Madison and was a graduate of Madison Central School. He furthered his education and was a graduate of Central City Business Institute of Syracuse. On March 14, 1950, in Madison, Walt married Marjorie A. Howlett. Together they raised their loving family of three children and enjoyed a marriage of 59 years until Marge’s passing in 2009. Walt’s business career revolved around the trucking industry. He worked at the former Cossitt Motor Express trucking company in Hamilton. He later went on to work as a salesman and manager for Marshall and Houseman International Truck Sales in Sherrill. He supervised the expansion of the company, with a larger and improved state-of-the-art truck repair garage. Walt became half owner of the company, along with his business partner Rose Tornatore in 1982. His work ethic never left his childhood farm days, as he successfully secured Marshall and Houseman as one of the major sales and repair garages for International Trucks and School Buses in Central New York. He retired from the business in 1996. His love for trucks continued with Walt restoring and collecting antique trucks. He was a lifelong member of the Madison United Methodist Church. Walt was also a member of the CNY Chapter American Truck Historical Society. An avid golfer during retirement, he was a member of the Barker Brook Golf Club. He was also active in his community, having served as a member of the Village of Vernon Planning Board. Throughout his busy life, Walt enjoyed any time spent with family, no matter the occasion. Many great everlasting memories were made with family and friends at their summer camp at Lake Bonaparte.
Walt is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Lawrence and Cynthia Fuller of Oswego, Jerry and Barbara Fuller of Hamilton; his daughter Lois Marcellus of Hamilton; his brothers and sisters -in-law Samuel and Shirley Fuller of DeRuyter and Willard and Dorothy Fuller of Hamilton; five cherished grandchildren and four cherished great grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, many other family members and close friends.
He was predeceased by his parents Howard and Hazel, his beloved wife Marge, his brother and sister-in-law Arthur and Vivian Fuller, and his son-in-law Doug Marcellus.
Walter’s funeral will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 12 Noon, at the Madison United Methodist Church, with the Reverend Jennifer Neidhart officiating. There will be a reception at the church following the funeral service. There is also a visitation at the church from 11 AM until the time of the service at the church.
