Sylvia L. Kabana
Brookfield-Sylvia L. Kabana, 88, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 16, 2024, at Crouse Community Center, where she had been a resident for the past three years.
She was born on February 9, 1936, in Utica, the daughter of the late William and Clara Sauder Parslow. Sylvia was raise in Sauquoit Valley and attended Sauquoit High School. On December 31, 1953, in Bridgewater, Sylvia married Edward E. Kabana, Sr. Their loving union lasting 50 years until Ed’s passing in 2003. She had spent the bulk of her working career at Martin-Marietta in Utica working in the electronics division. She had previously worked at Titian Homes in Sangerfield. She loved to read and enjoyed music. Sylvia enjoyed her hobbies of collecting miniature glass slipper, wicker baskets, and antiques. She was avid hunter of items that she could discover at flea markets, garage sales, and especially the Bouckville Antique Show. Sylvia loved any family gathering, no matter the occasion. She always held her family close to her heart, and was always there for them no matter the need.
Sylvia is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Edward E. Kabana Jr. and his wife Joyce Maine Kabana of Leondarsville; he daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Mark Cotton of West Virginia; her cherished grandchildren Justin Cotton and Kerry Spooner; her brother and sister-in-law Robert and Ilene Parslow of South Carolina; and her sister and brother-in-law Grace and Thomas Farrell of Clinton; her sisters-in-laws Thelma Kabana of Brookfield and Elanor Parslow of Mohawk. She is also survived by 4 great grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends, also survive Sylvia.
She was predeceased by her parents Bill and Clara; her beloved husband Ed Sr.; her beloved infant son Paul William; her cherished granddaughter Shannon Higgins; her brothers: Franklin, Edward, William, Charles, Richard, and Dennis; her sister Rosalie; and a sister and brother-in-law Olie and Larry Lawson.
Sylvia’s family is forever grateful for the loving care and compassion given to her by the doctors, nurses and staff at Crouse Community Center.
Services will be private with interment in Brookfield Rural Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Compassionate and personal care is being provided to Sylvia and her family by Jeffrey T.
