Susan Louise Calley Haberlen, 78, of Morrisville NY, passed peacefully from this life on Thursday May 9, 2024, from cancer, which she fought with strength, dignity and grace.
Susan was born on February 10, 1946, in Syracuse, NY. She was the third child of Robert D. Calley and Ruth M. Pratt Calley. Sue graduated from Lafayette HS in 1964 and continued her education at Powelson Business School, where she studied as a medical technician. Sue first worked as a secretary to a prominent oral surgeon in the Syracuse area. She then drove school bus for 32 years at Jamesville Dewitt Central School District. Most recently she worked as a car transporter for Romano Dealerships.
Sue was blessed to find love 3 times in her life. Her first marriage brought two sons, whom she adored. Sue married again in 1984 to the love of her life, Pastor Richard A. Haberlen. They spent 21 wonderful years together until his death in 2005. She happily and devotedly served as the pastor’s wife during those years. She spent the last 14 years with her life partner, Walter Fuller.
Never one to dawdle, Sue enjoyed life to the fullest, cooking, reading, singing, a great game of pinochle with a round of cocktails and casinos. She loved all animals; she especially enjoyed her horses. Some of her favorite memories were of riding Sandy and Shady. Sue was also an avid seamstress. She enjoyed making quilts for her loved ones and friends. Sue travelled to many places and frequently visited friends and family. She was devoted to her church, where she served as treasurer, enjoyed potlucks, and helped organize events. Most of all she loved spending time and enjoying a meal with her loved ones. Her infectious laugh will be missed by the many who loved her and those whose lives she touched.
Susan was predeceased in death by her parents Robert and Ruth Calley, her brother Richard Calley, and her beloved husband Richard Haberlen.
Susan leaves behind her cherished sons and their spouses: James LeRoy and Amy Ryan LeRoy of Marcellus, NY, SFC (ret.) Kevin LeRoy and Alison Litchfield LeRoy of Manchester, ME.
