Stanley R. Bassett Obituary

Stanley R. (Dick) Bassett

Madison-Stanley Richard (Dick) Bassett, 76, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, October 20, 2023, with the love and support of his family at his side.

He was born in Waterville, on March 2, 1947, the son of Clinton (CJ) and Bernice Tallman Bassett. Dick had attended several schools throughout his childhood.  At a young age he had the responsibility of caring for his 11 younger siblings. He owned and operated his own trucking business BASSETT Trucking for several years.  He then went to work for the Town of Madison from which he retired.  In his retirement, he provided transportation to his beloved Amish neighbors.

On February 4, 1967, Dick married the love of his life and lifelong companion, Sharon E. Buyea.  Together the two have experienced adventure, laughs, love, fun, illness, and death. Dick played as hard as he worked.  He enjoyed hunting, tractor pulls, NASCAR, and motorcycling.  Most of all, he loved any precious moment that he spent with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Dick leaves behind his cherished wife Sharon Bassett, his daughter and son – in -law Linnette and Leon Jr. (Bummer) Metz, his daughter and her partner Shannon Wiley and Michael Godfrey, and his son and daughter- in- law Lance and Leslie Bassett, all of Oriskany Falls; his loving grandchildren Sarah (Stephen), Brett (Jennah), Kaylee (Dillon), Heather (Geoff), Heather (Kyle), Shawn (Haley), Dalton ( Kristen), Reno (Sheyanne), and Kelly (Ryan). His precious great grandchildren Jasmyne, Darin, Jaxon, Blake, Brock, Braydon, Liam, Logan, Everly, Paisley, and Kinsley.  His many brothers and sisters, brother in-laws and sister in-laws, as well as many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents CJ and Bernice; 3 brothers Clinton T., William B., Howard J. and his grandson Bradley.

As per his wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service.  A private Interment will take place at Madison Village Cemetery.  Professional care is being provided by Jeffrey T. Paul, Director, of the Paul Funeral Home of Madison.  To offer a condolence, please visit: paulfuneralhome.net
