Madison-Sharon M. Genske, 73, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 9, 2024, with her loved ones by her side at Utica’s Abraham House under hospice care.
She was born in Utica on October 10, 1950, the daughter of the late Theodore Genske and Katherine Lewis Genske. Sharon was raised in Madison and was a graduate of Madison High School. Sharon loved working on her home and keeping the property pristine. She had been employed by the Madison Village Cemetery Association as the Sexton and caretaker of the cemetery. She took great pride in caring for the cemetery and maintaining its landscape. Sharon was a parishioner of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church.
Sharon enjoyed a strong bond and loved her nieces as her own children, and is survived by Kimberly (Joseph) Gizzi of Poland, Kelly Aylesworth also of Poland, and Kyle Bishop of North Syracuse; they also provided care and comfort in Sharon’s final days. Sharon is also survived several more nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Theodore and Katherine; her siblings Donald Genske Sr., and Judith Matteson.
Sharon will be buried next to her parents in a private graveside service to be held in St. Bernard’s Catholic Cemetery. There will be no public calling hours. Compassionate and personal care is being provided to Sharon and her family by Jeffrey T. Paul, Director of the Paul Funeral Home of Madison.
