Robert J. Schmidt
Vernon Center- 72, years old passed away on Friday, July 25, 2025 at the Wynn Hospital, with the love and support of his family by his side following a brief illness.
He was born on July 28, 1952 at Edwards Air Force Base the son of the late Edmond Schmidt and Evelyn Magee Schmidt. Bob grew up in Rome and was a graduate of Westmoreland High School and SUNY Brockport. On April 17, 1993, in Augusta, he was united in marriage to Linda (Ingalls). Bob had made his career as a building maintenance manager for various large residential complexes. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping. He was also an excellent gardener who could grow bountiful gardens, and beautiful flowers. Bob was a member of the New Beginnings Church of Wampsville. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved them.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years Linda; his children: Rebecca (Ted) Castka of Long Island, NY, Forrest (Gabi) Schmidt of Chile, Leif Schmidt of Iowa, Angela (Mike) Leary of Florida, Robert (Darcie) Leuenberger of Oriskany Falls, and Debra (Nate) George of Sauquoit;
and his brother Daniel Schmidt of (Ohio). Bob is also survived by 12 grandchildren, six great grandchildren and his close and constant companion his K-9 pal, Rip.
Bob was predeceased by his parents Edmond and Evelyn and his brother David.
There will be a celebration of Bob‘s life to be held on Wednesday, July 30, at 2:00 PM, at the New Beginnings Church in Wampsville, with Pastor John Heinike officiating. Compassionate and personal care is being provided to Bob and his family by Jeffrey T Paul, Director of the Coolican- McSweeney and Paul Funeral Home of Oneida.
