Robert G. Mayne
Waterville-Robert G. Mayne, 83, a life resident, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Saturday, June 4, 2022, at the Waterville Residential Care Center.
Bob was born on November 13, 1938, in New Berlin, the son of the late Lester and Frances Winters Mayne. He was raised in New Berlin and attended Waterville High School. He was an Army Veteran having served in Thailand during the Vietnam Conflict. On July 1, 1962 he married Louise Melvin in Waterville. Their loving union lasted over 41 years, until Louise’s passing in 2003. In 2018, Bob married Helen Halstead at their home in Waterville. Bob spent the majority of his working career as a technician lineman for the former Oriskany Falls Telephone Company, which was later merged into TDS Telecom Corporation. He had previously worked for the Waterville School District as a school bus mechanic and also a school bus driver. Bob was devoted to his community serving in the Waterville Fire Department as a fireman and also serving as a fire policeman. Bob was honored in 2021 in a ceremony honoring his life membership. He was a devoted Mason as a member of Sanger Lodge #129 F. & A.M.; as well as the Order of the Eastern Star, and Past Patron. An avid hunter and sportsman, Bob was also a member of the Waterville Fish and Game Club. Anyone who ever met Bob knew they had a friend for life, always giving of himself, expecting nothing in return. He was a devoted husband, dad, and granddad.
Bob is survived by his loving wife Helen; his brother Jeffrey (Wanda) Mayne of Brookfield; his sister Evelyn Lewis of Florida; his beloved children: Louise “Sandy” (Robert) Harding of Arizona, Sharon Litz of Oriskany Falls , Candy (Rick) Doyle of Waterville, Pam (Dale) Franklin of Norwich, Jack (Shirley) Litz of Waterville, and Robbie Mayne of Colorado, his cherished 16 grandchildren: Patricia Ford, James (Lisa) Harding, Judy (Bill) Staelens, Tammy (Chuck) Goodrich, Tanya Reynolds, Andy Gillette (Kate Landers), Amy Doyle (Gabe Howe), Megan (Andy) Smyth, Doug (Theresa) Murray, Ashley (Ed) Shaw, Michelle Franklin, Chris Franklin, Jennifer Litz (Jim Winfield), Nicole Mayne (Anthony Moreno), Kira Mayne, Ben Mayne, and a special Great Grandson and hunting buddy Dustin Fuller.
He was predeceased by his parents Lester and Frances; beloved wife Louise; his sisters: Virginia (Ginney) Hungerford, Mary Edwards, and Beatrice Williams; his brothers Hubert Mayne, Billea Mayne, and Richard Mayne
Funeral service will be held on Sunday, June 12, 2022 at 3 PM at the Paul Funeral Home of Brookfield.
Calling hours will be held prior to the funeral service from 12 PM until 3 PM at the funeral home, 10426 Church Street in Brookfield. Sanger Lodge members will meet at the funeral home to perform their Ritualistic Service at 1 PM, members of the Waterville Fire Department will meet at 2 PM to bestow honors to their Fallen Brother. Interment with Military Honors will be made in Waterville Cemetery. Funeral care and family care has been entrusted to the personal care of Jeffrey T. Paul , Director of the Paul Funeral Home.
