Richard G. "Dick" DePuy Obituary
Richard Gerald DePuy Sr. passed away unexpectedly November 13, 2025. He was born July 2, 1938 the son of Max and Effa DePuy in Solsville, NY.
He is survived by his loving wife Kay DePuy, his brother David DePuy (Fran) and his adoring children Julie (Scott Dillman), Richard (Brigette Hughes), Melissa (Don Brondou), Tricia (Ryan Moses), Carrie (David Dretel), Max (Emily DePuy) as well as his 19 Grandchildren, Liana, James, Cody, Brooke, Joanna, Reece, Aeryn, Ella, Alexandra, Mia, Samantha, Hunter, Jake, Luke, Mila, Colten, Amelia, Adelyn, and Ellie. He also had 6 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. As well as his surrogate son Marvin Jillson, God-daughter Jackie Sehn, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Charles Maxwell DePuy and Effa Peckham DePuy, and his sisters Maxine Fricke and Jeannie Jacobs.
He met his sweetheart Kay in 1974 and started a romance that lasted over 50 years. They truly enjoyed each other’s company and were never far from one another. They loved sitting by the river together at camp, playing wildly competitive games of cribbage at the kitchen table and always hosting the family for holidays. Their love for one another continued to grow and is a shining example for generations to come of what a loving relationship should be.
He loved his family and put them above all else. He loved the St. Lawrence River where he, Kay and the whole family would gather each summer. He loved cooking chicken and is the creator of the famous “Judge’s Chicken” sold at Ray Brothers Barbeque. While he was cooking that chicken with his sons and friends he always tried to stay hydrated with a couple Bourbons. He loved sitting at the kitchen table in his special spot sharing laughs and stories with friends and family. If you were one of the lucky ones that got to sit at that table, you were able to see firsthand his love of family and his appreciation of all that life had given him. He would famously say “they can't kill me now” as he thought about all his children and grandchildren and how his life would carry on through them.
Dick grew up working on the family farm and continued that tradition maintaining a farm with the help of his children and grandchildren throughout his life. He graduated from Morrisville-Eaton High School in 1958. After graduating high school he went on to open his own garage where he built a successful business. After he sold his business he moved into sales working for Eastern Milk Producers and Hackers Packers. Dick was a dedicated community member for the Town of Eaton. He was affectionately known as the “Judge” serving as the longtime Town Justice for the Town of Eaton. In his time as judge he was known for his fair judgements and his belief that people, especially young people, deserved a second chance to right their wrongs. In his role as Judge he also officiated the marriages of many family members and friends. He ended his community service as a Town board member in the Town of Eaton.
He will be remembered for his loyalty and love for his family. His word was his bond. If he was in your corner, you never had to question it. He was an honest, kind and hard-working man who is beloved by those who knew him.
The family asks that Dick’s friends join them in celebrating his life on Wednesday November 19, 2025 at Ray Brothers BBQ from 5-8pm.
