Richard J. Frederick
Madison-Richard J. Frederick, 80, passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2023, at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Medical Center, with his beloved wife Nellie, his sister Marilyn, and a few close friends at his side.
He was born on August 3, 1942, the son of the late Louis and Mary Billings Frederick. Richard was a lifelong resident of Madison. He graduated from Madison High School. At a young age, he discovered his talent and ability to fix just about anything that needed fixing. While still in high school, Richard worked with the local television repairman. Following high school, Richard joined the U.S. Air Force. He proudly served from 1961-1963, where he was a member of the United States Air Force Band. When he returned to Madison, he started his own business, Frederick’s Refrigeration. Richard successfully served the community and larger area for 43 years, finally retiring in 2006. In Hamilton, on April 19, 1969, Richard was united in marriage to his soul mate, Nellie Igel. Richard and Nellie are devoted members of the Columbus Community Church, where Richard served as a Trustee. He had been a former member of the Madison Fire Department. His hobbies included skeet shooting, his love for camping, fishing, and the great outdoors.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Nellie; his sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Roger Held; his nephews Justin Davis and William Igel; his niece Kristin Barkman; great nephew Zachary Barkman; great neice Kylie Barkman; his beloved Alicia Crandall, whom Richard loved as his own daughter, and Alicia’s daughter, Alana Brady, whom Richard loved and cared for as his own granddaughter; the family cat Gypsy. Richard also leaves behind many friends that he met through his journey of life.
Richard was predeceased by both his parents Louis and Mary. He was also predeceased by his beloved fur babies Lucy and Niki.
Funeral services will be held at the Columbus Community Church, 4311 State Route 80, at the four corners in Columbus, New York on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 11 AM. A reception will follow the funeral service at the church. Interment will be made in South Brookfield Cemetery. Richard and his family are being provided personal and professional care by Jeffrey T.
