Ralph O. Maine, Sr.Leonardsville-Ralph O. Maine, Sr., 83, a life resident of the Town of Brookfield, passed away peacefully on Thanksgiving evening, November 23, 2017, at the Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center. He was born at the family farm located in Brookfield Hollow on December 2, 1933, the son of the late Howard A. and Frances G. Jaquay Maine. Ralph had attended Leonardsville High School. His younger years were spent helping on the family farm, but still finding time to play basketball at school. In 1963, Ralph married Barbara Jean Abrams, who predeceased Ralph in 1997. Through out his life he was an avid outdoors man. Ralph enjoyed hunting and especially fishing. Ralph had been part owner of Rogers and Maine Contractors. He had also previously had worked for O.W. Hubble. Being a "Free Spirt" Ralph had spent a year on the west coast in California, where he loved deep sea fishing and scuba diving. Upon his return to Brookfield, he had worked at Helmer Tool and Die, later working and retiring from Precisionmatic. In the day, he also had race stock cars at the Brookfield Fairgrounds Race Track. Ralph was a devoted husband father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and loyal friend.Ralph is survived by three daughters, Joyce M Kabana, and her husband, Edward, of Leonardsville, Luretta Finch, and her husband Raymond, of West Exeter, and Margo Maine , of Leonardsville; his two sons, John H. Maine, and his wife Jennifer, of Plainfield, and Raymond Maine, of West Edmeston; his sisters, Phyllis McLean, of Chenango Bridge, Dorothy Prentice, of West Edmeston, Rose Landphere, of Plainfield, and Pat Hecker, and her husband, Kurt, of Oriskany Falls; his brother, Dave Maine, of West Edmeston; his sister-in-law, Tamara Freshour, of Evans, WV; his brother-in-law, Gail E. Abrams, of Brookfield; 14 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Ralph is also survived by a lifelong friend, Dave Witt.Ralph was predeceased by his parents Howard and Frances; his wife, Barbara Jean; two sons Ralph, Jr., and Randy; his sister, Ruth Fairchild: and his brothers, Stewart Maine, and Harold "Red" Maine. Funeral services will be held on November 28, 2017, at 2:00 PM at the Paul Funeral Home of Brookfield. Interment will be in Leonardsville Cemetery. There will be a visitation from 1-2 PM, prior to the service, at the funeral home, 10426 Church Street in Brookfield.
