Ralph G. BuchananOriskany Falls-Ralph G. Buchanan, 88, passed away peacefully with his loving wife of 66 years. Janet, and other family members at his side on Thursday, March 25, 2021, at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center.He was born on February 10, 1933, in Cherry Valley, the son of the late James H. and Marion E. Sargent Buchanan; and the second son of ten siblings. Ralph was raised in the Cherry Valley and Cooperstown area. Ralph left high school to join the Army and saw combat during the Korean War. He proudly served in the 82nd Airborne Division as a Para Trooper. He made numerous combat jumps to include at least two jumps that were behind enemy lines, the 38th Parallel. He married the love of his life, Janet Rice on September 4, 1955. Ralph spent his career as a long-haul tractor trailer driver as an owner operator. He enjoyed the open road and all his adventures as a trucker. Since his younger years, Ralph had a love of motor cycles. He was never without a motor bike and was an avid rider. He was always a bit of a dare devil showing off all the stunts he could do with a motorcycle. A self-taught master mechanic, he could fix just about anything with a motor. He will remain in the hearts of all that loved him.Ralph is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Janet I. Rice Buchanan; his six children: Sherry Solcum of Oriskany Falls, Susan Laliberte also of Oriskany Falls, Shane Buchanan of Ilion, Darin Buchanan of Oriskany Falls, Devon Buchanan of Hubbardsville and Aaron Buchanan of New Berlin; his brothers, Robert Buchanan of Vienna, and Ronald Buchanan of Partlow, VA. Ralph is also survived by 20 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and close friends,He was predeceased by his parents, James and Marion; his brothers: James, Clarence, Bernard and Donald; his sisters: Bernice, Linda, and Judy.Ralph's family will gather to celebrate his life privately and bestow military honors. There will be no calling hours or public funeral service. Ralph's family have entrusted his care to the Paul Funeral Home of Madison.
