Philip G. Quackenbush Obituary

Philip G. Quackenbush

Philip Quackenbush, age 82, of St. Cloud, Florida, passed away peacefully on July 28th, 2024.  He was born in Utica, New York, to the late Glen George Quackenbush and Eleanor (Sorenson) Quackenbush on May 11, 1942.

He spent most of his youth growing up in Madison, New York, where he would help his Dad and Mom do dishes at their restaurant, Quack’s Diner. He learned great work ethic from them and spoke often of growing up in the family business. As a teenager, Phil loved water skiing, dancing to every type of music, and filling the room with his great smile and infectious laughter. He played football at Madison Central High School and joined the U.S. Navy in his twenties.

As an adult, Phil resided in Kissimmee and St. Cloud, Florida, where he continued to work in the restaurant business. He worked at Walt Disney World for many years and built lasting friendships during his tenure. “Pops” was a lifetime member of the Saint Cloud, Florida Veteran of Foreign War Post 3227 where he made an appearance weekly and became an integral part of many people’s lives there.

Phil is survived by eight children, 17 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren who knew him as “POPS”, “Papa Quack-Quack”, and “PQ”.  They are as follows: his daughter Michelle  Marie Quackenbush, daughter Suzanne Elise Workum (David)  and their two daughters Aimee Mariah  (Preston) , Haley Lauren Locke (Tanner), as well as great-granddaughter Lennon Mae, his son Steven James Bassett and Steven’s sons Ian William Bassett and Samuel David Bassett, daughter Melissa Nicole Cooper-Barone and her children, Jacob Dillon Cooper, Abigail Jane Cooper, Eli Thomas Barone, daughter Kimberly Annette Quackenbush and her daughters Mackenzie Akayla Caswell and Madeline Brooke Quackenbush, his great-grandchildren River James and Lainey Rae, daughter Jennifer Lauren Yeager (Heith) and their children Hayden Alan Yeager and Sydney Jayde Snyder, daughter Christina Noel Quackenbush and her children Isabella “Scarlett” Sophia Ann Powers, Alexander James Powers, and Cameron Charles Gillespie, and son Brandon James Quackenbush (Kyliegh) and his children Caleigh Marie Quackenbush, Collin James Quackenbush, and Emma Leigh-Ann Quackenbush.

A graveside memorial service will be held for Phil Quackenbush on August 5th complete with military salute in the Madison Village Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest with his parents.
