Peter J. Pistello Jr.East Syracuse-Peter J. "Petie" Pistello Jr., 80, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, December 19, 2020.Pete was born in Syracuse on September 22, 1940, the son of the late Peter J. Pistello Sr. and Darleen Zgardzinski Pistello. He grew up in Jamesville and graduated from Jamesville-Dewitt High School Class of 1961. He was a proud veteran that served in the Navy and went on to serve in the Naval Reserve. He retired from Carrier Corporation where he worked as a welder. At St. Matthew's Catholic Church in 1995, Pete married his life-long soulmate, Ada D'Elia, their joyous union lasted 23 years, until Ada's passing in 2018. As a young man Pete worked at the James Street Movie Theater. He carried on his passion for not only different theaters, but was a movie junkie. He loved all movies, to include westerns, action, comedy, love stories to especially his love for Godzilla and horror movies. Petie was connoisseur of food. He enjoyed everything from diner food to the finest restaurants in Syracuse. If he wasn't talking about movies and theaters, he was talking about the best place to get a good meal. At Halloween, his home was known for a spectacular Halloween display, consisting of horror figures, which he had created. He was also known for his brilliant Christmas displays. Petie also loved to fishing with his brothers and friends. You could always count on Petie to do something silly or funny, just to make everyone smile and be happy. Petie was also an avid Syracuse University Basketball and Football fan. Petie will be most be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Family was the center of his world. He is deeply missed by all who loved him. Pete's cherished family mourn his passing. He is survived by his children, Shannon (Frank Roman) Bitz; Shelly (Mark) Aljets, Sara (Joe) Hall, John Christian and Christine Christian; sisters, Darleen (Gareth Scofield) and Antonia (Robert) Hamilton; brothers, James (Joanne) Pistello, Joseph (Kathleen) Pistello, Wayne Pistello, David (Lane) Pistello, Anthony (Linda) Pistello and Mark (Melanie) Pistello; two beloved granddaughters, Azzy Hall and Nichole Griffith; one loving grandson, Matthew Bitz, Jr.Following Ada's passing, Petie was very grateful for all the family members that came to support him with loving care.In keeping with Pete's wishes, private funeral services will be held in the Spring, at the convenience of his family.
