Maryann Mennig Rifenburg Obituary

Maryann Mennig Rifenburg

Munnsville-Maryann Mennig Rifenburg 64, beloved mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 2nd surrounded by the family she so deeply loved.

Born on March 31st, 1962, alongside her twin sister, Marydee and raised in Peterboro, NY.  Maryann was a graduate of Morrisville Eaton School District and Morrisville State College. Maryann made her home in Munnsville after she married, Michael E. Rifenburg on August 17th, 1985. Together they raised three children, Ryan, Renee, and Chris.

For more than 30 years, Maryann served as a RN and charge nurse at Community Memorial Hospital of Hamilton, NY. Nursing was more than just a profession to her, it was her calling. She devoted her life to providing care and comfort to her patients and their families during their most difficult moments. She was deeply respected and beloved by her coworkers, as shared by many in her final days.  Aside from nursing, nothing brought her greater joy than spending time with her family. Those who knew her will remember her for her kindness, generosity, and compassion. She had a remarkable ability to make everyone she encountered feel cared for, valued, and understood. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.

Maryann is survived by her children, mother-in-law and best friend Roxyann Rifenburg, her siblings Roxanne, Doug and Randy Mennig and brother and sister in law Jim and Deb Rifenburg. Maryann was blessed with a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins. She will also be deeply missed by her beloved dog, Tyson.

Maryann was predeceased by her parents, Albert and Dolores Mennig, infant brother Gary Mennig, her first born baby Adam Rifenburg, sister-in-law Kim Rifenburg, husband Michael, twin sister Marydee Moot, father-in-law Gene Rifenburg and little sister Julie Marshall.

Thank you to all the staff of Crouse and Community Memorial for the care they provided her, especially her dear friend and former coworker, Melissa and the many other nurses of Community Memorial, who she considered family. As well as all of the family members that provided comfort during her final days.

Calling hours will be held at Paul Funeral Home of Madison, on Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 1-3 PM. A graveside service will follow where she will be laid to rest at Peterboro Cemetery.
