Marie E. SutherlandMorrisville-Marie E. Sutherland, 96, formerly of Madison, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 11, 2016, at Crouse Community Center where she had been a resident for the past four years.She was born on July 11, 1920, in Erieville, the daughter of the late Albert and Bessie Moore Elmer. Marie's family later moved to Chittenango and she graduated from Chittenango High School. She married Eugene R. Sutherland, Sr., in 1939 in Oneida. Their loving union lasted over 50 years until Eugene's passing in 1989. In the early years of their marriage Marie and Eugene worked their dairy farm in Eaton until 1955. They then bought and operated the Hi Skor Lanes in Earlville for over 20 years; and later the Sportsman Lodge on Eatonbrook Reservoir. Marie also worked for Town and Gown Transportation. Marie will most be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.Marie is survived by her daughter, Linda Maltzan, and her husband, Robert, of Lewis; sons Kim Sutherland, of Thornton, CO, and Terry Sutherland and his wife, Judy, of Cazenovia. Marie's 9 beloved grandchildren; many great grandchildren, as well as numerous great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.She was predeceased by her parents, Albert and Bessie, her husband, Eugene, her son Eugene, Jr. and his wife Connie and her grandson, Rodney Sutherland, one sister and five brothers.A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at 11 AM from the Bouckville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Joelle Faulks, and Rev. Gary Spraker, Pastors, officiating. There will be a luncheon immediately following the service. Interment will be at the Earlville Cemetery at 3:00 PM. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Paul Funeral Home of Madison.The family would like to acknowledge the staff and residents of Crouse Community Center who not only showed extraordinary care, compassion and compassion and friendship but became Marie's second family over the past four years, Donations in her memory may be made to the Crouse Community Center Resident's Fund, 101 South Street, Morrisville, New York 13408.
