West Edmeston-Leah M. Perkins, 83, of Perkins Road, Town of Plainfield, passed away peacefully on the family farm, where she devoted much of her entire life, on Saturday, May 31, 2025, with the care of Hospice, and the love and support of her family at her side.
She was born on June 2, 1941 in the Cooperstown, the daughter of the late Lloyd and Christine Shilleto Fitch. Leah graduated from Edmeston Central High School and furthered her education at St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing graduating as a License Practical Nurse. During her life-long career as a nurse, she was a caregiver as a home aide, worked at the Chase Nursing Home, and retired from Pathfinder Village. Leah married Roger Perkins in 1962. In addition to nursing, Leah assisted Roger in the farm’s operation, and together they raised their beloved four children on the farm. Their loving union lasted 58 years until Roger’s passing in 2020. Leah was a dedicated member of the Columbus Community Church, and for many years, the church’s organist. Whether caring for her family, her patients, or the cattle, Leah did so with love and compassion. Her legacy of dedication to all she cared for will always be cherished.
Leah is survived by her children and their spouses, Joann (Glenn) Cilbirth, of Mesa, AZ, Gerald (Noemie) Perkins, of Monroe, NC, James Perkins, of Lancaster, PA, and David (Charitie) Perkins, of West Winfield and ten grandchildren; and her sister Andrea Gott.
She was predeceased by her parents, Lloyd and Christine, and her beloved husband Roger.
Leah's family extends heartfelt thanks her caregivers of Hospice for all their care and love for Leah.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at 1 PM with a visitation from 12 PM (NOON), until service at the Columbus Community Church, with the Pastor Richard Sliter, officiating.
