Laurel C. Butler Tice Solsville-Laurel C. Butler Tice,78, passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2018, at the home of her son, Shawn, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Ellenburg Depot, NY, on May 20, 1939, the daughter of the late Carmen and Beulah Spoor Covey. On March 29, 1958, Laurel married Charles Butler. Together, they raised their three cherished children in Solsville. A women of deep faith, Laurel was a member of the Hamilton Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses for many years. After moving to Pennsylvania she was part of the Quarryville Congregation, and more recently, after moving back to New York she was part of the North Rome Congregation. With Charles being an Elder in the Hamilton Congregation, she assisted with many of the activities of the Congregation. They enjoyed a loving union of 48 years, until Charles' passing in 2006. She retired from the US Postal Service in 2003, as the Post Master of Solsville. Laurel enjoyed her career with the Postal Service, as it brought into daily contact with all the local people. She loved to share a smile and conversation to all the entered her Post Office. Laurel was a skilled artist, who enjoyed working with paints, as well as pencil sketches. She also enjoyed times when all of her family was gathered around her. She will be remembered a devoted, loving, and caring, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, but most of all,for her faith in her God Jehovah. Laurel is survived by her children, her daughter, Kim Butler, her two sons and daughters-in-law, Craig and Vicki Butler, and Shawn and Angie Butler; her sisters. Pauline Butler and Miriam Shoen; her second husband, Marvin Tice; her beloved grandchildren, Nathan, Tiffany, Gavin, and Rylee; and her great grandchildren; Dawson and Prairie. Numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends also survive Laurel. She was predeceased by her parents, Carmen and Beulah, her husband, Charles, and her cousin, Ed Covey. Services for Laurel will be held at Hamilton Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Rt 26, Lelands Pond on Saturday, February 10, 2018, at 6:00 PM. Calling hours will be from 4:00-6:00 pm. Laurel had requested in lieu of flowers, donations could be made to the Worldwide Work of Jehovah's Witnesses to help those in need because of disasters, or to the Oneida County Hospice.
