Keith J. Rifenburg Obituary

Keith J. “Kiwi” Rifenburg

Earlville-Keith J. “Kiwi” Rifenburg, 58, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, with the love of his life, Denise, at his side following a 7-year courageous battle against cancer.

He was born in Oneida on November 30, 1965, the son of the late Kenneth and Jeanette Boratyn Rifenburg.  From a young age, Keith was given the nickname Kiwi by his mom,  which remained with him throughout his life.  Keith was raised in Oriskany Falls and attended Oriskany Falls School before it closed.  He transferred to and was a graduate of Madison Central School.  He later furthered his education by attending the school for Professional Auctioneers.  During high school, Keith held his first job at Tucker’s Grocery. Following school, Keith worked several years with his father, Ken, in the buying and selling of antiques at O & W Antiques in Madison and later relocating to Sherburne.  On June 19, 1993, Keith was united in marriage to Denise M. Donnison at the Americana Village in Hamilton.  Keith and Denise later opened their own antique business in Earlville called Marquis Antiques and Auctions.  Keith was a well-known auctioneer, not only locally through his family’s businesses, but also in a larger geographic area. He called several out of the area auctions that he would conduct from household estates to large car auctions, and as far away as Boston.  Most recently and prior to his illness, Keith had worked for Golden Artist Colors in New Berlin.  Music was one of Keith’s great loves. He played in a band since he was 13 years old.  He helped form the band “Phat Alyss,” where he was a vocalist and guitar player.  Besides his music, Keith loved the great outdoors, fishing and camping.   He and Denise have been residents of Lebanon Reservoir Campgrounds for 23 years.  Keith had been a mentor and mentored troubled youth throughout his life.  He gave much inspiration and hope to youth that had lost their way. He will be missed for all the love he gave to everyone, always keeping the positive attitude, and the ability to make a stranger a friend.

Keith is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Denise; his son Alex Rifenburg of Sherburne; his stepdaughter Felicia Selan and husband Brett Belsky of Boynton Beach, FL; sister Jolee Hodge of Oriskany Falls; his stepbrother William Lyons of Tampa, FL; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.  Keith also leaves behind numerous close friends that he loved and considered family.

Keith was predeceased by his parents, Ken and Jeanette, his brother Cary “Bear” Shauger, his brother-in-law Timothy Hodge.

There are no services planned at this time.  There will be a celebration of Keith’s life at the time and place to be announced.  Interment will be made privately in St. Malachy’s Catholic Cemetery.  Keith and his family are being provided professional and personal care by Jeffrey T. Paul, Director of the Paul Funeral Home of Madison.  To offer a condolence, please visit: paulfuneralhome.net
