Waterville-John P. Paino, 89, passed away peacefully, but unexpectedly, at his home on Monday, September 9, 2024.
He was born in the Town of Eaton on January 22, 1935, the son of the late George and Mary Segro Paino. John grew up on the family farm in Madison and attended Madison High School. He joined the United States Army and served as a Korean Era War Veteran from 1957 to 1959. John was united in marriage to Katherine Welsh on August 13, 1957. Their joyous union brought three beautiful children into this world. Katherine passed away on September 21 of 2011. John spent his whole working career in the highway construction trades. He retired from Ocuto Paving where he had been a General Manager in the road construction division. He had previously worked many years for Eastern Rock in Oriskany Falls and had been a truck driver for Jimmy Gerow. John had a love for motorcycles and snowmobiles, and he loved camping. He also owned and cherished classic cars. John and Kathy enjoyed 20 years of winters at their home in Ormond Beach, Florida. He was known to be a very hard worker, but he always found time to be a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He leaves behind a legacy of love and many great memories that he made with his family.
John is survived by his daughter Wendy, and her husband Bill Rashford of Waterville: his son Bradley, “Brad” Paino, and his wife Holly also of Waterville; his twin brother Anthony “Tony” Paino, and his wife Bonnie of Madison; 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Katherine; his cherish daughter Deborah; his father and mother Geroge Paino and Mary Bono Paino; his brother and sister-in-law, Andy and Grace Paino; his brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Ann Bono; and his brother and sister-in-law Cesaro and Beatrice Bono; and his sister Rose Elias. John is also predeceased by his special friend and close companion Freida Curtis.
At this time there are no formal services planned, and cremation will take place at the Waterville Crematorium. John’s family will gather privately to celebrate his life.
