John A. Coleman Jr.

Vernon Center-John A. Coleman Jr., 78, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 21, 2023, at his home, with the love and support of his family by his side, following a lengthy illness.

He was born on August 23, 1944, in Oneida, the son of the late John A. Coleman Sr., and Elizabeth Towsley Coleman.  John grew up in Munnsville and was a graduate of Stockbridge Valley High School.  He married Mary Ellen Perry on February 24, 1962; she predeceased John on September 12, 1994.  He was later united in marriage, in 1998, to Rosemary Bogan.  He had worked for numerous years for the Bridge Family, on the Bridge Dale Farms of Madison.  In his later years, he had worked as the Bar Steward for the Munnsville American Legion Post. He was also a member of The Sons of the American Legion Post of Munnsville.  He was a great outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.  Since a young man, John enjoyed his time spent with family and friends on the Beaver River.  Many fond memories and adventures took place on the river.  John was deeply devoted to his wife and family.

John is survived by his beloved wife of twenty-five years, Rosemary; his children: Connie (Jim Brackett) Coleman of Madison, Richard Coleman of Madison, Dawn (Eric) Olmstead of Waterville, Elaine Earley of  Madison, and Henry (Amy) Coleman of Madison;  his sisters: Jane King of Oneida, Ruth (Richard) O’Brien of Cicero, and Helen (David) Hoffman of Holland Patent; 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents John and Elizabeth, his cherished first wife, Mary Ellen, and his beloved son, John Charles Coleman.

John’s family will honor his life privately with interment services in Peterboro Cemetery.  Following his interment there will be a celebration of John’s life to be held on June 10, 2023 at the Munnsville American Legion Post from 12 Noon until 4 PM.  John and his family are being provided professional and personal care by Jeffrey T.
