Joan B. BrockwayRome-Oriskany Falls-Joan B. Brockway, 86, passed away on Thursday June 8, 2017, at the home of her daughter, Tammy, following a brief and courageous battle against cancer.She was born in Hooper, Nebraska, on October 13, 1930, the daughter of the late Harry and Erma Mead Schulz. She had attended local schools and graduated from Hooper High School. On October 22, 1949 in Scribner, NB, Joan married Robert F. "Brock" Brockway. Their loving union lasted 65 years until Bob's passing in 2016. Joan and Bob settle in the Deansboro and Oriskany Falls area in 1956. From 1970 to 1981, Joan had worked at Holland Farms Dairy in Clinton. She went on to work at the former Harding's Nursing Home in Waterville, retiring in 1992. Joan has been a resident of Rome, since 2001. A loving, kind, and caring person, Joan was devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.Joan is survived by her daughter, Tammy Guzman, of Rome; three sons and daughters-in-law, William and Noelle Brockway, of Monroe, NC, Michael and Laurie Brockway, of Sauquoit, and James and Dianna Brockway, of Land of the Lakes, FL; a sister Patricia Reandeau, of AZ; many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joan was predeceased by her parents, Harry and Erma; her sisters, Leatrice, Pearl, Jean, and Jacquelyn; and her brothers Dale and Jerry.Graveside funeral services will be held on July 3, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Hillside Cemetery, Oriskany Falls, with the Rev. Jack Ford , officiating. In keeping with Joan's wishes there will be no calling hours. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Paul Funeral Home of Madison.
