Jerry C. Tanney
Brookfield-Jerry C. Tanney, 71, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse, shortly after admission due to cardiac issues.
He was born in New Berlin 0n June 29, 1951, the son of the late Ernest and Marion David Tanney. Jerry grew up the in the life of a farmer’s son. He was passionate about working the land and his animals. He especially loved caring for his cows and horses. At the age of 15, Jerry’s family moved to Orange Lake County in Florida. He had worked many years at O. D. Huff at a citrus shop. He later returned to the Brookfield area. In 1971, Jerry was untied in marriage JoAnn McNamera. He had most recently worked for Curtain Brothers Farm. Throughout his life, Jerry maintained his love for animals, caring for horses, cows, chickens, pigs, and the many farm dogs. He loved his garden and the lush flowers and vegetables that he grew. Most of all, he was proud of the family that he and Jodi raised. He looked forward to any time his family would gather, no matter the occasion.
Jerry is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Jodi, his three sons and their spouses: Jeffrey (Donna) Tanney of LaGrangeville, Jason (Margo) Tanney of Brookfield, and Joshua (Billie Marie) Tanney of Bridgewater; his cherished 5 grandchildren: Dalton, Nathan, Nick, Jacob, and Cheyenne; his brother Charlie (Wendy) Tanney of Leonardsville; his siblings all of Florida: Donnie Tanney, Linda Landfair, Judy Tanney, Robin Sullivan, and Meda Lloyd Tanney. Jerry is survived by many nieces, nephews, and many other family members.
Jerry was predeceased by his parents Ernest and Marion; his brother Howard Tanney, and his step-mother Nellie Tanney.
There will be no services at this time, spring interment will take place in Brookfield Cemetery, followed by a celebration of Jerry’s life to be held at the Johnson’s and Rogers American Legion Post.
