Jean G. "Pete" Owen, Sr. Brookfield-Jean G. "Pete" Owen, Sr., 91, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, August 4, 2017. A life resident of Brookfield, Pete was born at the family farm on March 14, 1926, the son of the late Barton and Ada Cross Owen. He was a proud WW II Army Veteran. After the war, Pete returned to Brookfield. He was a true entrepreneur and enjoyed many business ventures. He owned Pete's Garage and Scrap Yard. In later years, he turned a passion of his into a business, Pete's Exotic Birds. On May 10, 1967, he married Monica A. Tallman. Their loving union lasted 37 years until Monica's passing in 2004. Pete enjoyed any small engine to include antique steam engines. Pete will always be remembered as a dedicated family man who was caring and kind. Pete is survived by his children: Jean G. Owen, Jr., of Brookfield, Vicki (Richard) Pedersen, of Lee Center, Gordon (Barbara) Owen, of Spring Hill, TN, Paul (Georgi) Owen of Brookfield, Wyatt (Robin) Owen, of Brookfield, Frank (Robin) Owen, of Brookfield, his step-children: Terry Tanney, of North Brookfield, Joseph (Annette) Tanney, of North Brookfield, Greg (Tracy) Tanney, of North Brookfield, and Bonita Tanney, of Madison; his sisters, Pat Hodges, of Brookfield and Martha LaClair, of NC; his brothers, Tom (Rachael) Owen, of Brookfield, and Nelson (Ruth) Owen, of Brookfield. Pete is survived by many grandchildren, numerous great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. Pete was predeceased by his parents, Bart and Ada, his wife Monica, 3 brothers, and three sisters. The family wishes to give special thanks to his sister, Pat, for all of her loving care and help. Graveside funeral services with Military Honors, will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at 1:00 PM, at the South Brookfield Cemetery, with the Pastor Clarence Haflin, officiating. There will be no calling hours. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Paul Funeral Home of Madison.
