Janet E. (Schrag) WashburnPlainfield-Janet E. Washburn, 83, passed away June 4, 2020, at home after a long illness. She was born February 28, 1937 in West Edmeston to George and LeOra Sweet Schrag. Janet attended Leonardsville Central School, graduating in 1954. She was employed at Bendix Corporation when she married Raymond Ellis Washburn in the West Edmeston Baptist Church on June 8, 1957. They immediately took up residence on the farm Ray had purchased years before and set about fixing it up and making it home. For some years, Janet was a homemaker. After returning to work, she spent many years first at the Great American in West Winfield, then many more in the law office of Cosentino, Snyder, Applegate and Quinn, from which she retired in 2006. Janet was a skilled cook and talented seamstress and quilter, creating beautiful handmade dolls, teddy bears, and dozens of carefully crafted quilts which she gave away to grandchildren, friends and family. She took pride in the fact that several of her children and grandchildren followed her example in the kitchen. Janet was a communicant of Bridgewater Congregational Church. Until her very last day, she held onto her great sense of humor, levelheadedness and quick intelligence. Janet is survived by her husband of 62 years, Raymond Ellis Washburn, three children; Catherine (Dean), of Baltimore, Maryland, George of West Winfield, who diligently cared for her for many years, and Chris (Teresa) of Benicia, California; and 8 grandchildren. She is also survived by dear siblings: brother-in-law and sister-in-law Geoff and May Schwartz, sister-in-law Sharon Schrag, brother-in-law and sister-in law Ralph and Lorraine Washburn; by cousins Ida Mae Tophoven, Bill Sweet, and Barbara Fallis, and many nieces and nephews, including her niece Megan Tate who lovingly helped to care for her in the last months of her life. She is also survived by dear friends John and Carol Adams, Frances Fazzone, Teresa Raymond, and Jean Davis. Janet was predeceased by her brother Gordie Schrag and close friend and cousin Peggy Robinson. A memorial service and gathering will be held outdoors at a later date to be determined.
