Janet I. Buchanan

Oriskany Falls-Janet I. Buchanan, 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 3, 2022, peacefully at the Waterville Residential Care Center.

She was born on June 5, 1939, in Oriskany Falls, the daughter of the late Ivan and Mina Furness Rice.  Janet was a life resident, grew up in the, “Falls” and was a graduate of Oriskany Falls High School. She married the love of her life, Ralph Buchanan on September 4, 1955. Janet was a devoted wife and mother, while raising their six children, while Ralph was working as a long-haul tractor trailer driver. While raising the children, Janet was not a stay at home mom.  She had been employed by Waterville Knitting Mill, the Waterville Food King, finishing her working career at the former Harding Nursing Home and Community Memorial Hospital. She will remain in the hearts of all that loved her.

Janet is survived her six children: Sherry Solcum of Oriskany Falls, Susan Laliberte also of Oriskany Falls, Shane Buchanan of Ilion, Darin Buchanan of Oriskany Falls, Devon Buchanan of Hubbardsville and Aaron Buchanan of New Berlin; Janet is also survived by 20 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; numerous nieces, nephews and close friends.

Janet was predeceased by her loving husband and soulmate of 66 years, Ralph, in 2021. She was also predeceased by her parents, Ivan and Mina, and her brothers Stanley Rice and Karl Rice.
