James R. Calhoun
Bouckville - James R. Calhoun, 90, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 15, 2023, at Community Memorial Hospital, with the love and support of his family at his side, following a brief illness.
Jim was born in Brookfield, on October 7, 1932, the son of the late Grant and Mary Welch Calhoun. Jim was raised on the family farm in Brookfield and was a graduate of Brookfield High School. He went on to further his education by attending Cornell College of Agricultural. On August 6, 1966, he was united in marriage to June Roberts. Jim left the family farm at 34 years old and ventured into other endeavors. Jim had retired from Cazenovia College where he had worked in building maintenance. He had previously been a surveyor, with Stearns and Wheeler of Cazenovia. Jim loved the outdoors, he enjoyed golfing and camping. He also had a “green thumb”, maintaining large gardens of flowers and vegetables. He was a faithful member of the Bouckville United Methodist Church. Most of all, Jim was a devoted husband and family man, he would look forward to anytime the family would gather, no matter the occasion.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, June; his beloved daughters Angela Calhoun of Bouckville, and Helen (James) Carroll of Rome; his cherished grandsons, Bryan French and Jacob Carroll: his siblings: Margaret Walker of North Brookfield, Katheryn Spoor of Rome, Grant “Butch” (Amy) Calhoun of Brookfield, and George “Don” (Darlene) Calhoun of Kanas City, MO. Jim is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Grant and Mary Welch Calhoun, his sisters Dorothy Frost, Ruth Ward, and Ann Ingalls, and brother-in-laws Pete Frost, Harry Walker, William Ingalls, and Harry Spoor.
A memorial service for Jim will be held on Saturday June 3, 2023, at 11 AM, at the Bouckville United Methodist Church. Jim’s family and friends will gather for a reception following services at the church hall. Interment services are private and at the convenience of the family.
