Hugh J. Wratten
Hubbardsville-Hugh J. Wratten, 64, passed away with the love and support of his family at his side on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at the Oneida Healthcare Center.
He was born in Utica on January 19, 1960, the son of Wendell P. Wratten Sr, and Virginia Barnes Wratten. Hugh was raised on the family farm in North Brookfield. He was a graduate of Waterville Central School.
On August 22, 1994, Hugh married Bonnie Sauerhafer. Hugh had worked as a New York State Correction’s Officer and had 25 years of service at retirement. The farm never left Hugh, and together with Bonnie, operated their hobby farm at their home. He was a master of martial arts and had taught numerous students over many years. Having been raised on the farm, and in his nature, Hugh was a hard worker, and gave whatever the project was a 100% . He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting fishing, and any other activity that was outside. Hugh was happiest when family was around, no matter the occasion. Any family event that Hugh and Bonnie hosted was always special. Hughs’ wit and wisdom will be missed by all, his legacy he left will be eternal.
Hugh is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Bonnie; his cherished mother Virginia Wratten of North Brookfield; his children: James Wratten of Hubbardsville, Joe Wratten (Melanie) of Watkins Glen and Josh Wratten of Watkins Glen, his step children : Andrew Szewczyk (Cher) of Madison and Andrea Welsh (Stanley) of Hubbardsville his siblings: Barbie (Doug) Hungerford of North Brookfield, Brian Wratten of North Brookfield, Roger (Miyo) Wratten of North Brookfield; his late brother, Michael Wratten’s wife Jenna of Waterville; his late brother Paul Wratten’s wife, Connie of Hubbardsville; his cherished and loved grandchildren: Melanie, Cameron, Jasmine, Emma, Cloey, Donovan, Josie, Andrew, Dalton, Alanna, Marissa, Cassidy, Stanley Jr., Hannah, and Clara. Hugh leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
He was predeceased by his father Wendell P. Wratten Sr., and his brothers Michael Wratten and W. Paul Wratten Jr.
There will be calling hours to be held on Sunday, March 17, 2024, from 1-3PM at the Paul Funeral Home, 3592 South Street in Madison. A prayer service will follow calling hours. There will be a Celebration of Hugh’s Life following services at the North Brookfield Fire Department, at 4:30 at 9199 Main Street in North Brookfield. Spring interment will be in Graham Cemetery, Hubbardsville. Compassionate personal and professional care is being provided to Hugh and his family by Jeffrey T.
