Hobart L. "Hobie" Morris Jr.Brookfield-Hobart L. "Hobie" Morris Jr., 82, "a well-known personality" of the Brookfield Community, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 13, 2021, surround by the love and support of his family at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center.He was born on January 18, 1939, in Utica the son of the late Hobart L. Morris Sr. and Dorothy Hughes Morris. Hobie was raised in Utica and graduated from New Hartford Central High School. He furthered his education at Utica College earning a Bachelor's of Arts Degree in History. Hobie earned his Master's Degree in History at Syracuse University. He was a Professor for 15 years at Central Methodist University, located in Fayette Missouri. He also was a Fulbright Scholar. In July1966, in Washington State, Hobie married the love of his life and soulmate, Lois Loken. In the early 1980s, Hobie and Lois came home to Brookfield, moved up on the "Hill," and built an A-Frame home. Hobie spent countless hours working in the woods and tending to the land he loved so very much. They devoted much of their time to the care to the Brookfield First Baptist Church. Lois played the organ assisted by Hobie, and both of them tended to the lush gardens of flowers around the church. He also was a contributing writer for the Waterville Times, the West Winfield Star, and numerous magazine publications. Hobie was a member of the Brookfield Historical Society. He also had a great love of the sport of basketball. He will always be remembered as a devoted husband to Lois, and his heart-warming smile, and kind and gentle way will be missed.Hobie is survived by his beloved wife Lois of 55 years; his brother and sister-in-law, Robert J. and Rebecca Morris his sister and brother-in-law, April and William Reilly; and many nieces and nephews..He was predeceased by his parents Hobart and Dorothy, a brother Edward L. Morris, and a sister-in-law Gail B. Morris.There will be calling hours on Friday March 19, from 1-3 PM at the Brookfield Baptist Church. Due to the current Covid-19 Crisis, facial masks must be worn, social distancing must be maintained and adjusted total capacity must be followed. Funeral services will be private. Spring interment will be made in Brookfield Rural Cemetery. Hobie's family have entrusted his care to the Paul Funeral Home of Brookfield.
