Helen I. Billings SharpOriskany Falls-Helen I. Billings Sharp, 95, passed away unexpectedly, on Friday, January 12, 2018, at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center.Helen was born on September 29, 1922 in Batavia, the daughter of the late Carl and Ilma Johnson Bullock. She was a graduate of Oakfield High School. During WWII, Helen supported the war effort by working at Eastman Kodak. Following the war, her family moved to Oriskany Falls. Helen's father owned a Confectionary Store in Oriskany Falls, which she helped to operate. In 1948, she was united in marriage to Joseph Billings. A loving union that lasted 54 years, until Joe's passing in 2002. When the store closed in 1964, Helen went to work for the United States Postal Service. She retired from the Oriskany Falls Post Office, as Post Master in 1984. A deeply religious woman, Helen was part of a group that founded the Lairdsville United Methodist Church. She was the organist for the Lairdsville and the Oriskany Falls United Methodist Church, and the Paris Hill United Church of Christ for many years. She also played the organ at various other local churches. In 1961, Helen received, "The Roses for the Living" award from the Oriskany Falls Rotary Club. She had also been a Cub Scout Den Mother. She had also published a book of poetry titled, "Poems by Grandma Helen." She was proud of her accomplishments in life, but most of all she was a proud and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.Helen is survived by her son and daughter in-law, Richard and Joanne Billings of Oriskany Falls; her two grandchildren Chad Billings, and his wife, Laura of Oriskany Falls, and their children, Zoey and Bella; Ranae Waterman, of Whitesboro, and her children, Zach, Mack, and Grace.She was predeceased by her parents, Carl and Ilma, her husband Joe, and her second husband, Clayton Sharp, and her sister, Grace Bullock.In keeping with Helen's wishes graveside funeral services will be held in the spring at Hillside Cemetery.
