Harris Griffin Sr. Obituary

Harris L. Griffin Sr.

Hamilton-Harris Lee Griffin Sr., 75, passed away on Friday, June 21, 2024, with his loving and devoted wife, Vicki, by his side after a final heroic 4-week battle in the MICU at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, NY.

Harris was born on February 10, 1949, in Turner County, GA, the son of Clarence and Mary Jane Wood Griffin. He was raised in Nocatee, FL, and was a graduate of Arcadia High School. Harris went on to further his education, learning the HVAC trade that would become his lifelong career. On August 4, 1979, he married the love of his life, Vicki Harris, in Nocatee, FL. They raised two sons, Lee and Bryan, in Arcadia, FL, where Harris instilled in them his love of fishing, boating, barbecuing and camping. Harris also enjoyed encouraging his sons’ involvement in Cub Scouts and Little League Baseball by providing leadership as cub master and coach.

In 1993, the family relocated to Hamilton, NY, where he has resided for the last 30 years. Harris had his mother’s green thumb and was known to have beautiful and bountiful vegetable gardens, which provided for many family meals. He was an active member of the East Hamilton United Methodist Church.

Above all, Harris cherished his family. His love and dedication to them were unwavering, and he found great joy in spending time with his loved ones.  His tenacious spirit and faith and his will to beat the odds kept him living and enjoying life to its fullest.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Vicki Griffin of Hamilton; his son and daughter-in-law, Harris “Lee” Jr. and Shannon Griffin of Eliot, ME; his father and mother-in-law, Carl and Darlene Harris of South Hamilton; his sister, Joann Parsons of Nocatee, FL; and his sister-in-law, Lorene Griffin also of Nocatee, FL; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Harris was predeceased by his parents, Clarence and Mary Jane; his cherished son, Bryan; his brothers: Willie, Pete, Tommy and David Griffin; and his sister, Vera Phillips.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at 11:00 AM, at the East Hamilton Methodist Church, with the Rev Thomas M. VanHatten, Pastor, officiating. There will be a visitation at the church from 10-11 AM, prior to the service. Interment services will be private and held later in Graham Cemetery.
