Harold G. Carney Obituary

Harold G. Carney

Harold Glen Carney of Augusta passed away at home after a long illness on June 11, 2025, just days after his 82nd birthday.

Born in Utica on June 5, 1943, Harold was the beloved son of the late Edward A and Mina M Carney of Wampsville, NY.

Following high school graduation and attendance at Morrisville College he enlisted in the US Airforce where he proudly served.

Throughout his life Harold acquired many skills and talents which took him to both the frigid state of Montana and the excessive heat of Texas then back home to New York leading to a career in State Service where he worked for the State Emergency Management Office (SEMO) and NYS Canals as a lock operator.  A deeply religious man he found joy in his faith and in the simple pleasures of life. He had a great passion for classic cars, enjoyed a good game of poker and had an insatiable appetite for reading. He could often be found lost in the pages of a good book with his pipe in hand- The ultimate ‘good book’ for Harold was, of course the Bible.  Known fondly to many as the Minister of Christ, Harold had published many sermons in area newspapers.  Growing up on the family farm instilled in Harold a love of all animals, especially dogs. He recently befriended a beautiful collie named Penny who lives across the street. She gave him great comfort and joy during these last few months. Being a proud Irishman, he could often be seen enjoying a pint of Guiness with friends at the local pubs and the American Legion.

He was predeceased by his cherished life partner of over forty years, Brenda Seeley. His devotion to her was unparalleled. They enjoyed their time at the Legion meeting up with friends and playing shuffleboard, and at Vernon Downs during racing season.  In Harolds eyes the sun rose and set on Brenda. He completely adored her.

Harold was also predeceased by his four brothers: Edward, Charles (Infant), Joseph, Paul and his nieces May Carney and Darleen ‘Ducky’ Burke. Surviving family members include his sisters Clara (John) Bortle of Oneida, NY and Elaine (Larry) Arnold of Clifton Park, NY. Additional survivors include many nieces and nephews: Eileen Kipp, Diane Manning, Patrick (Carm) Carney, Tammy (Michael) Evans and he was particularly close to his niece Laura (Shaun) St. Onge of Clifton Park, NY.

Harold’s warmth and good humor will be deeply missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. The arrangements are with the Paul Funeral home, Madison. Graveside services will be held on Monday June 23, 2025, 11AM at St. Bernards Cemetery, 190 Stafford Ave, Waterville NY.  Immediately following services, family and friends are welcome to attend a Celebration of Life at the Hotel Solsville, 7243 Valley Road, Madison NY.
