Frederick George Larkin passed away Thursday, February 11, 2021, from complications of COVID-19 at Faxton-St. Luke's Medical Center at the age of 72.Fred was born December 22, 1948 to Donald and Esther Marvin Larkin at the former New Berlin Hospital. He was raised on the family farm in West Brookfield and was a graduate of Brookfield Central School. Fred went on to graduate with a Bachelor's Degree from SUNY Fredonia and then furthered his education by earning his Master's Degree in Systems Management from the University of California. While living in Brookfield he met and married Kathy (Kane) Larkin and they raised two sons, Sean Patrick and Jason Leroy. Fred proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 16 years retiring with the rank of Major. During his military service he served in many distinguished assignments including as an Air Traffic Controller, Systems Control Chief at the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) inside Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado Springs, CO and later for the Defense Information Systems Agency at The Pentagon in Washington, DC. Upon retiring from the Air Force he worked as a system engineer and network manager for Houston Associates and then CA Technologies as a software consultant. Fred retired from CA Technologies with 22 years of service. Fred was deeply dedicated to serving his community, whether in his hometown of Brookfield or the many adopted communities throughout his years of military service. He served as Membership Officer, Service Officer, Chaplain, and Historian for the Johnson-Rogers American Legion Post #1492 of Brookfield; Chairman of Trustees and Treasurer for the First Baptist Church of Brookfield; Secretary of the Town of Brookfield Historical Society; Member of the Brookfield Rural Cemetery Board; a Member of the Friends of Rogers; and Treasurer for the Friends of Herndon, VA Fortnightly Library. Fred was also recognized with the Herndon, VA Good Neighbor Award for 2005. When Fred was not busy lending a hand to his many civic organizations, he had a multitude of other passions such as enjoying nature, birdwatching, literature, classical music, history, art and architecture, but above all he enjoyed exploring the countryside by motorcycle with his beloved partner, Millie Chapman. Fred will always be remembered not only as a man of honor and dignity, but for his love and devotion to his family, country and to God.Fred is survived by his mother Esther, his partner Millie Chapman; children Sean Larkin, his wife Anne, and their children Eve and Declan of Wantagh, NY, his son Jason Larkin and his husband Michael Jones of Washington, DC; siblings Thomas Larkin of Fountain Hills, AZ, Joan Gast and her husband Doug of Stone Mountain, GA, Brian Larkin and his wife Terri of Earlville, NY; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces and close friends.He was preceded in death by father Donald L. Larkin on February 3, 2021, his former wife Kathy, his aunt Elizabeth Lopez, and his uncles Harry, Paul and Colin Larkin. Joint funeral services for Fred and his father, Don, will be held at the Brookfield First Baptist Church of Brookfield officiated by Pastor Mark Thall. Interment with Military Honors for both Fred (USAF) and Don (USA) will follow in the Brookfield Rural Cemetery. Fred's family have entrusted the Paul Funeral Home of Brookfield with Fred's care.Memorial gifts may be made to First Baptist Church of Brookfield, or the Johnson-Rogers American Legion Post 1492.
