Frances Eggleston Dewey, 94, a former resident of Hamilton and Hubbardsville, passed away on Sunday, April 24th at the Lutheran Care home in Clinton, NY. Mom was born in Smyrna, NY on May 18, 1927. She was the daughter of Linn Noyes Robbins and Blanche Ardell Martin. After Blanche’s death, Mom’s grandparents, William, and Mary Jane Bellinger Martin, raised her.

Mom was married to Fred E. (Doug) Dewey for 49 years when he predeceased her in 2016. She worked for more than 31 years at Colgate University. Mom was a proud member of the James Madison Chapter, NSDAR in Hamilton, NY.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon (Jim) Mcilhenney of St. Augustine, FL; Son-in-law Brian Empie; three grandchildren - Kevin Mcilhenney of MO; Scott Myers of NC; and Bernard Empie of PA; six great-grandchildren - Jessica and Shannon Mcilhenney; Troy and Mackenzie Myers; and Connor and Gwendolyn Empie. When Mom married Doug, she became stepmom to Delbert (Jean) Dewey; Dale (Penny) Dewey; Danny (Barbara) Dewey; and Dawn Fairchild.

Mom is the last surviving sibling. Predeceased by her sister, Mary Karpp; and brothers, Emmett Robbins; Gerald Robbins; David Robbins; and Milton (Pete) Robbins. Also, two daughters: Bonnie Myers Harelick, and Charlene Empie Anthony.

The family would like to personally thank the wonderful staff and caregivers at the Lutheran Care – Bryant Unit; Delbert and Jean Dewey for being there for my mom when needed and watching over her and the house in Hubbardsville; Brian Empie, Leon and Blanche Robbins for their love, support, and assistance these past few years.

There will be no calling hours. Graveside services for family and friends on Friday afternoon, April 29th, at 2 PM, with burial in the Weedon/Martin plot at Woodlawn Cemetery in Hamilton.
