Fay P. RyanCanastota-Fay P. Ryan, 69, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2016, at the VA Healthcare Center, Syracuse, with his wife, Joan, at his side.He was born on July 2, 1947, in Middlebury, VT, the son of the late Ray and Joyce Winters Ryan. Fay was raised in Cazenovia and was a graduate of Cazenovia High School. Following high school, he served in the Army as a combat infantry solder in Vietnam. Fay received two Purple Hearts for his actions in combat. On December 24, 1983, in Cazenovia, Fay married Joan Carpenter. Fay had been a caretaker of a family's Cazenovia estate home. Fay was also a professional landscaper who enjoyed creating beautiful landscape projects. Fay and his brother David, had owned Executive Estates, a landscaping company for over 20 years. Fay enjoyed the beauty of nature and the great outdoors. He was fond of his camp that he had refurbished in the Town of Vienna. He loved the beauty of the solitude and nature that his camp provided. Fay was proud of his endeavors at the camp, turning a shack into a home. He also enjoyed his trips with Joan to the St. Lawrence River, just to watch the river and all its surrounding beauty. He was an avid reader of all subjects. Fay was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, and a friend that you could always count on.Fay is survived by his wife, Joan; his children, Daniel Ryan, and his wife, Shelley, of Cazenovia, Nathan Ryan, of AZ, and Kim Jackson, of Ft. Myers, FL; his brothers David Ryan, and his wife Jeanne, of Cazenovia, and James Ryan, and his wife, Joan, of Liverpool; his sister Sharon Gresk and her husband Ken, of CT. He is also survived by his three beloved grandchildren, nieces, nephews and close friends.There will be a Celebration of Fay's Life to be held at the Cazenovia American Legion Post 88, 26 Chenango Street, Cazenovia, N.Y. on Thursday December 8, 2016 from 5-7 PM.
