Fannie May TerrierKnoxboro-Fannie May Terrier, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 3, 2017, with the love and support of her family at her side, at Crouse Hospital.She was born in Clinton, at the family home, on July 27, 1934, the daughter of the late Archie and Edith Barns Dawes. Fannie May was graduate of Clinton High School, Class of 1952. On November 24, 1954, in Clinton, Fannie May married Donald G. "Sam" Terrier. In 1959, they moved to Knoxboro to raise their family of three cherished children: Joe, Cindy, and Sam. Their loving union lasted 60 years until Sam's passing in 2014. Fannie May had been employed as an "old time" telephone switchboard operator in Clinton and later in Waterville. She later went to work at Colgate University as a telephone switchboard operator. After a decade or so, her job evolved into public safety dispatcher. A kind and caring person, Fannie May was also willing to listen and advise, many of the public safety officers or students, she was a "second" mom to many. Upon her final retirement after 31 years of service, her smile, her laughter, and her caring nature, not to mention her baked goods, were missed by all in the department. Fannie May was also devoted to her church, Augusta and Vernon Center First Presbyterian Church. A life member, she had held many offices to include Church Elder. In her retirement, she enjoyed her adventures and the companionship of the Oriska Valley Seniors Club and she especially loved the Clinton Golden Girls. Anyone who knew Fannie May, would know how she would "glow with pride" and smile, when she spoke of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Her family was her spiritual wealth. Fannie May is survived by her beloved children, Joseph (Susie) Terrier, of Bouckville, Cynthia (George) Chamberlain, of Oriskany Falls, and Samuel (Patti) Terrier, of Hubbardsville; her cherished grandchildren, Alicia Chamberlain, and her partner, Bobby Virgil, Kristi (Craig) Gibson, George (Monica) Chamberlain and Brooke Terrier; her step-grandchildren, Travis (Katherine) Dutcher and Kristie Dutcher. Fannie May also leaves several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, all of whom she adored.She was predeceased by her parents, Archie and Edith, and her husband, "Big Sam", her sister Bernice DuVaul, her brother Robert Dawes, and her sister Frances Dorr.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at the Paul Funeral Home of Madison, with Pastors Jay Williams and Bob Decker, officiating. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2-5 PM, prior to the funeral service. Immediately following the funeral service, a celebration of Fannie May's Life will be held at Mitchell Point, which is located at 4965 East Lake Road, Hamilton from 6 PM until it's conclusion.In memory of Fannie May, and in lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation to either the First Presbyterian Church of Augusta and Vernon Center.
