Ernest Butler Obituary

Ernest R. Butler

Solsville-Ernest R. Butler, 84, passed away peacefully, at his home, surrounded with the love and support of his family on Friday, April 21, 2023.

Ernie was born in Verona on the family farm on February 6, 1939, the son of the late Joseph R. and Edith M. House Butler. He was raised on the family farm and attended local schools. In many ways Ernie was self-taught. He was mechanically inclined, as most farmers, and could fix just about anything that was broken. On May 16, 1959, Ernie married his beloved wife Pauline Covey in Oneida, NY. Together they raised their beautiful family of five children. Ernie was a career employee of Oneida Limited, retiring with 38 years of service. He enjoyed his retirement, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends, his grandchildren and great grandchildren gave him a special joy. Ernie was a member of the Hamilton Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. His love for God and neighbor motivated him to share the Bible's hope found in Jeremiah 29:11,12: “‘For I well know the thoughts that I am thinking toward you,’ declares Jehovah, ‘thoughts of peace, and not of calamity, to give you a future and a hope. And you will call me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.” Ernie was confident in that future and being reunited with his family to enjoy perfect health and happiness forever.

Ernie is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Pauline; his children and their spouses: Michael and Rachel Butler, Tammy Butler, April Butler, Beth and Eric Von Gardey, Benjamin and Linda Butler; his sisters Florence Larock and Ernestine Jeffries; his brother John Butler; his cherished grandchildren; Faith, Sarah, Becka, Bethany, Joshua, Caleb, Courtney, Christopher, Laura; 22 great grandchildren. Ernie is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and his large spiritual family.

Ernie was predeceased by his siblings: Madaline Millatelo, Claretta Fox, Donald Butler, Fred Butler, Frank Butler, Jim Butler, Joseph Butler, Charles Butler. Two cherished grandsons Adam and Mikey also predeceased Ernie.

A service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 4849 State Route 26, Eaton, NY 13334, at a date and time to be announced. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Personal and Professional care for Ernie and his family is being provided by Jeffrey T. Paul, Director of the Paul Funeral Home of Madison.  To offer a condolence or share a memory, please visit: paulfuneralhome.net
