Succeeding Rod, Don was elected to the position of Highway Superintendent in 1978 where he served for 23 years. Through numerous elections, Don often gained endorsement by both political parties. Don and Marilyn were actively involved in Line Dancing at Sunland Springs Village in Mesa, Arizona, and Upstate NY. During his retirement, he and Marilyn enjoyed taking cruises and traveling throughout the United States and abroad. Some favorite trips included the United Kingdom (Scotland, England and Wales); Ireland, Europe (France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Portugal), and China.
