Dennis G. Hilts
North Brookfield-Dennis G. Hilts,66, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at his home property. He passed as a result of an accident while engaged in his favorite sport, hunting.
Dennis was born on February 3, 1956, in Oriskany, the son of the late George and Joanne Piersma Hilts. He grew up in Oriskany and graduated from Oriskany High School. Following high school, Dennis had been an employee of Revere Copper of Rome. He made a drastic change in his work career by furthering his education and became a licensed respiratory therapist. Dennis had worked several years at the former Faxton Hospital. Upon Faxton’s closing, he was transferred to St. Luke’s Hospital. His patient care was extraordinary, awarding him many a personal friendship with his patients.
In 1985, at the family home, then located in Sangerfield, Dennis was united in marriage to Judy Hinman. They later relocated to North Brookfield, taking vacant property, and transforming it into their paradise. Their home had a large amount of property for Dennis’s favorite sport, hunting, and large pastures and barns for Judy’s sport, raising horses. Since childhood, Dennis was an avid outdoorsman. He was an experienced big game hunter having traveled from the east coast to the west coast, and even Alaska, to bring home his trophies. Dennis was also an experienced taxidermist, transforming his prey, into lasting memories of the big game hunt. Dennis also had a deep love of fishing and would go anytime he had a chance. Dennis retired from St. Luke’s in 2018, which gave him more time for all the activities he loved. Most of all, he took great pride in teaching his children and grandchildren the skills that he mastered in life. His life was complete with his family by his side, and peace he enjoyed in the paradise he had created for his family.
Dennis is survived by his wife and soulmate of 37 years, Judy; son Kelby Hilts and his fiancée Brenda Ludwig; his daughter Amber (Anthony) Kupris; his cherished grandsons Matthew Kupris and Mason Kupris; and his brother Douglas (Diana) Hilts. Dennis is survived by numerous extended relatives and close friends.
He was predeceased by both his parents George and Joanne.
