David A. Gaskins, Sr.Munnsville-David A. Gaskins, Sr., 80, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 31, 2017, at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, while his beloved wife, Leah, and his children were at his side.He was born on August 29, 1936, in Utica, the son of the late Eric A. Gaskins, Sr. and Erma Dickenson Gaskins. Dave had graduated from Madison High School. He was a proud Army Veteran. On January 23, 1959, in Bouckville, David married Leah R. Smith. As a young man, growing up in Solsville, David took great pride in his work ethic. He provided for his own needs while helping his family financially. This ethic served him well, as he had 39 years of dedicated service with the former Dairylea, which later became Hood. Dave enjoyed any outdoors activity, including, fishing, hunting, trapping, and gardening. He also enjoyed family time, the sporting events of his children and grandchildren, graduation, and birthdays. Christmas times were special for Dave, as this time of the year brought all the family together. Most of all, Dave will be remembered as a loving and devoted, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.David is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Leah; his children, Clayton "Chip" (Wendy) Gaskins, Karyn (Michael, Sr.) Reeder, Susan Gaskins, and David A. Gaskins, Jr.; his brother, Eric A. Gaskins, Jr.; his sisters, Betty Rice and Debbie Dimock; seven cherished grandchildren; three cherished great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.David was predeceased by father and mother, Eric and Erma, and two sisters, Nancy Rockwell and Mildred Shoen.A memorial service will be held for David on Sunday, August 6, at 2 PM at the Stockbridge United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Gary Spraker, officiating. A reception will held at the church following the service, all are welcome. There will be no calling hours. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Paul Funeral Home of Madison.
