Carl L. Jones Obituary

Lancaster, PA/Randallsville, NY – Carl Leonard Jones, 80 passed away on December 2, 2022 at UPMC Harrisburg, PA.

Carl was born in Norwich, NY, on November 1, 1942, the son of the late Clifford Tibbitts and Marian Ingham Jones.  Carl started school in first grade at the Randallsville School, part of Hamilton Central School.  He was active in the FFA program throughout high school and was class president in his junior year.  He was known by the nickname of “Smiley” in school.  He graduated from Hamilton Central School, class of 1960.  As a young man, he worked with his father and family members on the family dairy farm, Valley View Farm on River Road, often working the land with his father’s draft horses and raising dairy cattle.  He later took ownership of the farm until 1992, when his health issues necessitated selling the farm.  Carl and Marilyn moved to Trestle Lake development between Pratts Hollow and Munnsville where they built a log cabin.  Carl underwent a successful kidney transplant in 1993, having had that kidney for 29 yrs.  In June 2001 they moved to Lancaster, PA, having spent time there previously, and where Carl could appreciate seeing draft horses working in the farm fields, remembering the days of his youth.  Carl and Marilyn are members of the Faith United Methodist Church, Lititz, PA.

Carl married Marilyn Crumb, of Hubbardsville, on July 18, 1964 in the East Hamilton Methodist Church.  Together they raised their children, Sheri and Andy, and they were often the extra hands needed in the operation of the farm.  Carl’s love of farming equaled his love of nature and that of his family.   He was a devoted son, brother, husband, and father whose wisdom, guidance and often humor will be deeply missed.  Carl loved sports, especially favoring the Yankees and the Syracuse University Men’s Basketball teams.

Carl is survived by his wife and soul mate of 58 years, Marilyn; his beloved children: Sheri Ann Jones-Sherman (companion of Lawrence Bosley) of Plattsburgh, NY, and Andrew Jones, Earlville, NY; his sister, Madeline Daubert (Bob) of Cary, NC, his sister-in-law, Sue Jones, wife of the late Leon Jones, Dunwoody, GA, several nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces and nephews, one great niece located throughout the country.  Carl is also survived by the numerous members of his in-laws, the Crumb family.

He was predeceased by his parents, sister Eleanor (Bruce) Emanuel, Richmondville, NY; brothers: Elwyn Jones, Hamilton, NY and Leon Jones, Dunwoody, GA.  Carl was also predeceased by an infant son and infant daughter.

Family and friends will honor Carl in the Spring of 2023, on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at 1:00 PM with a graveside committal service in the Smith Valley Cemetery, located outside of Hamilton, NY.  Those wishing to make a memorial contribution in Carl’s name may do so to the Faith United Methodist Church, 1290 Fruitville Pike, Lititz, PA 17543 or Kidney Foundation of Central PA (KFCP), 900 S. Arlington Avenue, Suite 134A, Harrisburg, PA  17109
