Betty Mae Gaskins RiceWaterville-Betty M. Rice, 90, a life-long resident of Oriskany Falls and Madison, passed away peacefully, with the love and support of her family at her side, at the Waterville Residential and Rehabilitation Center on Wednesday, March 13, 2019.Betty was born on August 25, 1928, in Copenhagen, New York, the daughter of the late Eric A. Gaskins, Sr. and Erma Dickenson Gaskins. At the age of six months, Betty's family had relocated to Knoxboro. She graduated from Madison Central School. Betty was a life-long healthcare professional to the elderly. She started her career at St. Luke's Home, then working numerous years at Madison County's Gerrit Smith Infirmary, and finally retiring from Crouse Community Center. Betty married Stanley Rice in 1945. Their loving union last 52 years, until Stanley's passing in 1997. Betty was a member of the Madison United Methodist Church.Betty is survived by her children, Judith (Bill) Hickman of Knoxboro, Linda (Morris) Lyon of Vernon Center, Betty Lou (Alan) Carroll of Oriskany Falls, Wendy (Ronald) Bono of Bouckville, and James (Elizabeth) Rice, of Deansboro; her brother, Eric A. Gaskins, Jr.; her sister, Debbie Dimock. Betty cherished all of her family especially her seventeen grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren. Betty is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and close friends.Betty was predeceased by her parents, Eric and Erma, her husband Stanley, her son, Ivan her brother David, two sisters, Nancy Rockwell and Mildred Shoen and a special and close friend, Larry "Bud" Nelson.Spring Graveside Services will be held at a later date in Madison Village Cemetery.
