Bessie H. MattesonMadison-Bessie H. Matteson, entered life eternal on Thursday, May 7, 2020, after experiencing an amazing and full-filled life of 104 years. Bessie passed away at Community Memorial Hospital with the love and support of her family following a brief illness.She was born in Sauquoit on April 16, 1916, the daughter of the late Frank E. and Florence V. Phelps Shaw. Bessie graduated from Sauquoit High School. On November 24, 1934 in Sauquoit, she married Myron M. Matteson Jr. They enjoyed 70 wonderful years together, enjoying life, and raising their beautiful family, until Myron's passing in 2004. In addition to being a mother and homemaker raising nine children, Bessie had worked for New York Telephone Company, retiring with over 20 years of service. She had previously worked at the Willowvale Bleachery. Bessie belonged to the Telephone Pioneer's Club of Utica, a member of the Maple Valley Chapter #393, OES, and a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Sauquoit Fire Department. She was also a member of the Amazing Grace Church. In her 104 years, Bessie saw many technical advances and worldly marvels, most of all she lived life to the fullness and enjoyed all the blessings bestowed her, especially her cherished family.Bessie is survived by her beloved children, Linda (Thomas) Kilbourne of West Winfield, Sharon (Everett) Peek of Hookstown, PA, Terry (Vincent) Rizzo of Ilion, Robert (Linda) Matteson of Florida, James (Sally) Matteson of Madison, Gregory Matteson and partner, Lori, also of Madison; 29 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 16 great great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.She was predeceased by her two beloved children, Randy and Myron M. ‘Mike" Matteson III and his wife, Joan, and Thelma June Pike. Bessie was also predeceased by her three brothers and three sisters.Due to the current COVID crisis, Bessie's visitation will be private. Burial will take place in Crown Hill Memorial Park. A celebration of Bessie's life will be held at a date to be determined. Her funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Paul Funeral Home of Madison.
