Arthur John Sauerhafer Obituary

Arthur John Sauerhafer

Arthur John Sauerhafer, 74, of Madison, New York, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with brain cancer.

Born on January 4, 1951, John was a beloved son, father, uncle, grandpa, and friend—cherished by all who knew him. He spent much of his life on the road as a truck driver, where many knew him by his CB handle, “Grease Monkey.”

Johnny was a man of emotional intelligence and natural respect for others. He had a deep understanding of people and carried himself with a quiet strength and dignity. Inspired by his love for John Wayne and Clint Eastwood, he embodied the grit, loyalty, and integrity of the classic American cowboy—strong yet kind, independent yet deeply connected to family and friends.

He loved firing up the grill to cook what he proudly called his “heart attack steak” and never passed up the chance to share a good meal and a laugh.

He is survived by his loving companion, his children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, and his beloved work buddies who became like family.

Viewing hours will be held on Sunday, July 13, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Paul Funeral Home, 3592 South Street, Madison, NY. Johnny will be laid to rest privately with his mother at Madison Village Cemetery.

Following the viewing, family and friends are invited to join us at Solsville Hotel to raise a glass and toast “the man, the legend—Johnny Sauerhafer.”
