James W. “Bill” Curtis

Rome- James W. “Bill” Curtis, 54, passed away unexpectedly at Rome Memorial Hospital of an apparent heart attack on December 20, 2019.
He was born in Cooperstown on October 9, 1965, the son of James Curtis and Betty Convis. Bill grew up in New Berlin and graduated from New Berlin High School. In high school, Bill was an all-star football player. Following high school, Bill thought if he could not play college ball, he would play on a bigger playing field, so he joined the US Army. Bill served as an Arctic Paratrooper for six years, leaving the Army in 1990 with Honorable Discharge. Following the Army, Bill worked several years at Colgate University as a Campus Safety Officer. He also was a part-time Hamilton Police Officer. Later in his career, Bill had been a long-time employee of Clinton Tractor, later working at Empire Tractor. He was a proud veteran and a member of the Munnsville American Legion Post 54. Bill was a caring person, who would put others before himself. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him.

Bill is survived by his mother Betty Convis; his companion, Georgianna Robinson; his children, Tyler Curtis, Shelby Curtis; siblings: John (Anne) Convis, Chris (Melanie) Curtis, Anne (Brandon) Zingaro, and Sharon Ruger. His step-mother Joanne Curtis along with the mother of his children Darlene Curtis, his life long best friend Jimmy Marose. Bill is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Graveside funeral service with Military honors and a celebration of life will be held in the spring. Further details will be announced at a later time.
