Obituary for Thomas W. Owen

Thomas W. Owen
Brookfield-Thomas W. Owen,73, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 4, 2020, at his home with the love and support of his beloved wife, Rachael, his children, other family members, and close friends, as he flew with angels to reach heaven.
Tom was born in Brookfield, on October 1, 1946, the thirteenth child of the late Barton and Ada Cross Owen. He graduated from Brookfield High School. After high school, he worked at the former Hal’s Gas Station in Waterville. Tom then started his 32-year journey with Agway Petroleum, Agway Crop Center and Feed Mill. He rose thru the ranks and had held several different supervisory positions. As supervisor in Sangerfield, Tom was proud that his division had been chosen from a field of Nationwide Divisions, with awards of “1st Place, 1992 Truck Fleet of the Year” and “2nd Place 1997 Feed Mill of the Year.” In later years, Tom went on to be a Truck Driver Trainer, at Agway’s East Syracuse Driver’s Training Center. He had also taught Tractor Trailer Driving for BOCES. For ten years Tom had worked as a Dispatcher for American Asphalt Corporation. Tom had also served as a Police Officer for the former Village of Waterville Police Department. Until his illness, Tom enjoyed working at Sittsy’s Sealing and Paving, mowing lawns and creating beautiful landscapes. He married the love of his life and soulmate, Rachael Ann Gaiser in Brookfield on May 13, 1967. Although Tom was dedicated to all his employers, his priorities were always to care for Rachael and his children. He enjoyed his Ford Model A Car. He overcame his fear of heights, by owning and flying his power parachute. Tom had a love for his community, the co-workers and customers from his business relationships. Tom will be remembered for his deep devotion and love for Rachael, his children grandchildren, and his whole family. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him.
He survived by his beloved wife and soulmate of 52 years Rachael; his beloved daughter, Bonnie Jean Kelley and his beloved daughter and son-in-law, Tammy Rae and Rick Jennings; beloved grandchildren, Daniel Kelley and his companion, Laura Johnson, Brittany Grey, and her husband, Cory, and Allison Kelley, and her companion, David Jones; Tom’s only surviving sibling, Nelson Owen; and his pride and joy, a great-grandson, Carson James Grey. Tom is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, business associates, and close friends.
Tom was blessed to have two special nieces, Rebecca Owen and Ashley Brady, that he not only adored, but were also healthcare professionals. Without their love, compassion, and professionalism, Tom could not have remained at home for his final days. Your gift to your uncle and our family will always be cherished. Tom’s family would also like to thank the nurses of Hospice for their compassionate care of not only Tom, but our family as a whole.
Tom was predeceased by his parents, Barton and Ada, his 5 sisters and 6 brothers.
Due to the current health concerns, NYS Health Department and CDC directives, Tom’ s immediate family will gather to honor Tom’s Life. Burial will follow in Brookfield Rural Cemetery. As Tom was part of the Brookfield Community, and when the health concerns have subsided, Rachael and his family will host a “Celebration of Tom’s Life” at a time and place to be announced. Tom’s family have entrusted his care and final wishes to the Paul Funeral Home of Brookfield. To share a memory or offer a condolence please visit:
