Melody Akins Obituary

Melody Marie Akins

Madison-Melody Marie Akins, 63, of Madison, NY passed away peacefully on March 25, 2024, at home with her devoted family by her side.

Melody was born on August 26, 1960, in Canastota, NY the daughter of the late Milford and Beverly (Williamson) Lovett. She grew up in Canastota, where she attended Canastota Central Schools. On June 21, 1980, Melody was united in marriage to James M. Akins at the Methodist Church in Madison, NY. Melody and James settled in Madison and soon after began to build a family of their own.

Melody dedicated her life to raising her children. There was nothing she loved more than being a mother, and later, a grandmother. Her family was her greatest joy, and she theirs. She was a sincere friend who was always ready to help others, and she was a truehearted sister, with limitless love and loyalty.

Melody had many interests and talents. She was an excellent bowler and enjoyed her league at the Waterville Bowling Alley. However, where Melody truly shined was with gardening, baking, and sewing. She was a skillful seamstress, she could identify nearly any flower she saw, and she could bake delicious treats better than any bakery. Melody also enjoyed games, but she was particularly clever at scrabble.

Adored by all who knew her, Melody will be remembered for her unwavering kindness, her ability to love endlessly, and above all her incredible inner strength. Melody was gracefully courageous; she had the kind of strength that was awe-inspiring.

Melody is survived by her husband of 43 years, James; her children, Jessica Clark, Janette (Amanda) Merriman, and James (Kayla) Akins; her dearest sister, Melissa Lovett; her beloved grandchildren, Preston, Spencer, Connor, Andrew, Lily, Alec, Dakota, Clayton, Abigail, Kaitlyn, and Trevor; her sister-in-law Joyce (Bert) Makenzie; her brothers-in-law: Uriah Pittman, Joseph Pittman, and Alan Pittman. Several nieces and nephews also survive Melody. Melody was predeceased by her parents, and daughter, Jennifer Akins.

Interment and funeral services will be private and at the discretion of the family, with spring burial in Madison Village Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers and in memory of Melody, kindly please consider a donation to the Madison Fire Department or the Madison Methodist Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Paul Funeral Home, 3592 South Street, Madison, NY 13402.
